Friday, June 6th, 2003 - Day 108

Friday, June 6th, 2003 - Day 108
Lima in the news this day because of an outcry over the sale of Dolphin meat. Dolphin remains widely available under the counter from Peruvian fishmongers. At 40 cents a pound, it's a popular protein for the poor. Horsemeat, by comparison, costs 70 cents a pound; beef, $1.85. More information here . As it was a late night staying in bed until 10.00am watching the Firm.

Got to the Congress building at 11.30am. The changing of the guard ceremony lasted more than hour with more than a 100 soldiers present with military bands etc (and they do this nearly every day!!)

Went and saw Limas China town, the biggest in South America. Also went to see the San Pedro Church. Went to the tourist office to check if I could go and see any of Limas football teams play tomorrow. The staff there are excellent. They brought me out to buy a local sports paper (Todas Sport) for half a Sole. No games tomorrow but Sunday. I also checked out where I would travel to next. The fog was blocking out the Sun from 3.00pm onwards and it left an eery glow around the place (seen picture). Reminds me of the film THE FOG. Its a bit creepy.

Watched a bit of Meet the Parents but headed out. There is a place called PIZZA ALLEY beside the hotel which is a predestined street full of bars and restaurants. Also called into Murphys and the Larcomar Centre. Alot of American sailors about on shore leave. Got back to the hotel around 3.30am.

...imagine visiting 30 countries over 500 days of travel producing fantastic stories and over 30,000 unique pictures...
I started this blog in January 2004 and since then, I have visited over 30 Counties producing a diary and photoblog along the way. I have archived these stories and pictures for your (my) pleasure. I have grouped them in three sections. They are the Main Full archives , the Country by Country Highlights and from over 23,000 pictures taken by me since February 2003. The best pictures (in my opinion) are currently in the Gallery but I am starting to move the majority of my best pictures (some you can see above in the Flickr badge) to my FLICKR account. They are chosen with care from my travels from Brazil to Argentina to Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. From New Zealand to Australia to Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam to China and Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania to Ireland. From Tango in Buenos Aires, from the Inca Trail to Bangkok and Angkor Wat.
So take a minute to enjoy. Visit either the main archives, the Country by Country the hightlights, to finally from over 30,000 pictures taken by me over the year, the best pictures.
